Harley sat on the grass in the courtyard with his journal in his lap leaning over it as he scribbled a poem on to the sheet of paper. Ignoring everything around him. Nothing could break his consintration at that moment he was almost finished.
Once again the summer will leave, All the laughter, and the fun, Gone for the season. the days of sun, Time for the winter and sleighing fun. A time of hardship for some, A time of fireside warmth and tea, A time for snow balls and children's glee, But a time for staying inside for me. Awwwwww summer where did you go, Your my best friend, didn't you know, Life you bring to the air, sweet smells of flowers, Blooming sweet, beauty for the soul. I will miss you, summer, my friend, I know that you will be back again, To warm my face and my hands, Bringing my smile and laughter back with you then.
Stopping he leaned back going over his poem with a smile on his face as he nodded his head slowly. He liked it a lot. Putting his pencil behind his ear he leaned back against the bench, closing his eyes and taking in the weather around him.
(Farewell to Summer-Olivia K. Wombles)

Lola needed time out, away from the ruckus of the school, and so she made her way out into the courtyard. She wanted to be high, but she had a class that afternoon and she knew it wouldn't be wise to rock up to her english class stoned, since her teacher had long ago learnt to tell when she was. That, and Lola was fond of writing, anyway.
Spotting a familiar face she made her way over to Harley, a relatively good friend of hers. Without a word she sat herself down next to him, taking in his position before wondering what had made him cream his pants.
'Don't look so fucking satisfied. I bet your not even high, so what the fuck's go you so happy?' She asked him curiously.

Harley jumped and looked over at Lola for a moment before looking back down at his journal slowly shutting it and moving it to his side opposite of her. Biting his lip as he ran his fingers over his pencil nervously.
"I...I was just...Admiring the day."He told her softly keeping his eyes down. She was right. He wasn't high so his nervous ways were showing now. "Waiting....For... um... class."He mumbled out. Chewing on his lip now as he pulled on the sleeves of the school uniform blazer. Much rather having his leather jacket on but he followed the rules.

'Chill out, it's no big deal, you just looked like you'd creamed yourself. I was curious as to what the fuss was, is all' Lola shrugged, leaning her head against his shoulder and closing her eyes, relaxing completely and caring little for whether he was nervous around her or not. They had some good times while they were high, and that was all that really mattered to her, to be completely honest. She'd forgotten that he'd have english with her next, and the prospect of having company for it made her somewhat more excited than she already was.

Harley froze as she rest her head on his shoulder not really know what to do. "I...am chilled out."He told his bottom lip now completely put off. "I didn't cream myself....I think...It's perfectly normal to...be...happy."He stated looking around trying to find an exit.
Yea they did things when they were high but only kissing and he still felt weird about that. He wasn't one for hook ups. Hell he was still a virgin. Which was rare at this school. But all these girls gave themselves up for nothing. That just wasn't him.
"I was...Just...Writing...It makes me happy..."He mumbled out keeping his eyes darting around the area. He wasn't in his comfort zone at all now with her head on his shoulder. She was in his personal bubble.

'Harley, please? I'm not going to eat you, I just want to spend some time in your company. I don't expect anything, except, well, for you to talk occasionally is all' Lola murmured quietly, wishing that he would relax and not be quite so damn nervous in her presence. He was one of the hottest things in the school, and she'd been trying for ages to make him comfortable, but sometimes she felt like she got positively no where.
'You're my friend' She told him, putting emphasis on the word friend in the hope that it would be what would relax him.

Harley nodded his head. "I know...I just...."He stopped. He couldn't actually say that he didn't like being touched. Which was true but that would be mean. Instead he opt for looking around trying to find someone to change the subject with. "You know me...Nervous wreck unless I'm high."He mumbled out running a hand threw his hair glancing down at her for a moment before looking back up.
Yea...Friend...Why did all the girls around here that considered him a friend want him to have sex with them? Why couldn't they just be just friends. No kissing, no touching, just friends. No...That was impossible here.

'You know, sometimes I just don't get you' Lola murmured, speaking her mind for a brief moment of time. She didn't understand why he pushed her away when most guys were more than willing to have her hang around them. They had fun when they were high, or she did, at the very least, but she didn't understand why he was okay with trusting her then, and trusting her enough to get high with her, but he didn't trust her before they got to that stage. It just made absolutely no sense at all to her.

Harley looked down at his hands for a moment. "I just...I don't...know."He got out biting his lip nervously. "I...just feel...more...comfortable...when I smoke."He told her softly as he ran his hand threw his hair looking around now watching people walk to and from class just wishing time would pass and he could be doing that as well. He just wasn't a people person. Hell the only one who actually didn't get on to him about the way he acted was Sapphire. She just accepted that he was a quiet guy and kept to himself.

'You kind of make me feel like you only put up with me when you're high because you think I'm easier or something. I only want to talk' Lola told him, shrugging her shoulders, tone making her sound hurt when she wasn't really. She just wanted him to understand that she wasn't going to pressure him into anything, that she was happy with just sitting and talking if that was all he wanted to do, sober or high. He was her friend, and she wanted to be able to act like he was around him all the time.

Harley shook his head. "No...It's just that...I just...It's easier...To...um...Talk."He got out running his hand up and down his arm. He didn't mean to make it seem like that. As his eyebrow furrowed he looked down at his hands still. "I don't...talk...Well."He stated as if it wasn't obviously at this point. There was a reason he never raised his hand on class when sober. He didn't sit with people at lunch. They just didn't understand that he had a hard time explaining things when sober.

'You think too much, that's why' Lola told him with a grin, only teasing him now.
'Most people don't think enough before they open their mouths and speak, but you think too much. Maybe, together, we can think just the right about and speak normal, or rather, what is ideally normal' She giggled, nudging him lightly and playfully before going back to just sitting, however, she couldn't help the smile that remained on her face at the teasing she'd just done. She only hoped that he understood that she'd only intended it to be playful, not at all serious.

Harley opened his mouth before shutting it. "I...I...Guess...Your right."He stumbled out giving her a small smile.
"I...I'm...Not normal."He stated with furrowed eyebrows. "I'...I'm naturally weird."He told her honestly. He hated talking. It always took him to long to say anything. Sometimes he would just pass notes to someone. Things went by a lot faster. "I...Can't...Help it."He told her honestly keeping his eyes down. Biting his lip slightly. Not really getting that she was teasing. Not at all use to it. He got it when he was high but not when he was sober.

'I was only kidding, Harley' Lola sighed, knowing this was going to be a lot more difficult than she'd first anticipated. Really, what was so hard about just relaxing for him? It wasn't that big a deal, and she didn't understand why he couldn't just let what people said to him pass on by. Comment back on it, but don't get worked up about it. It really wasn't that difficult, or not as far as she was concerned, anyway, and she only wished that he had the ability to come to terms with that and realise it.

Harley opened his mouth and shut it again. "Oh..."He mumbled out keeping his eyes down. Why couldn't people just leave him alone when he was sober. His ears turning read from embarrassment. Slowly he grabbed his notebook and stood up.
"We....We should get to...Class."He mumbled out as he bit his lip grabbing his bag off the bench and shoving his book inside feeling like a right fool now. Couldn't they just understand he wasn't like everyone else? Right now he didn't want to talk to anymore. He always fucked it up in his head.

'Here's a better idea. Let's ditch, and go get high, yeah?' Lola asked him, standing up as well and slipping her hand into his, not so as to make him nervous, but simply in way of a friendly gesture. She didn't know if he'd accept or not, but she hoped that he would, since she desperately wanted to undo what she'd done. She didn't like that she'd made him more nervous than normal and she just wanted to fix that, to make it up to him.
'I'll get you the notes from this one girl, so you won't fall behind. My shout on the weed, too' She added so he was informed, again not trying to pressure him.

Harley furrowed his brow when she took his hand causing him to take a deep breath. He didn't like to skip class but then again he didn't like being around so many people sober. "I...I...Um..."He stumbled out looking around as if he would find the right answer around him. It wasn't smart to just ditch. Biting his bottom lip he tried to calm down. Simply nodding his head now.
He was going to give himself shit for this later but he didn't want to make her made him. And she was just trying to be nice to him so might as well. Letting out another breath he nodded to her once more.

'Only if you're sure, and you want to' Lola told him honestly as she noticed him nodding his head. She didn't want him to feel he had to just because she wanted to, and so she was going to make damn certain that it was what he actually wanted to do. She considered him a friend and she was going to treat him just like all her other friends, making sure that they only did things that they actually wanted to do, rather than being guilted into doing things that they didn't want to and then regretting them later.

Harley opened his mouth shutting it soon after before nodding his head once more. "I...I...Want to."He stumbled to get out. "As long as...We...Don't get caught...I'm...I'm on scholarship."He told her. Yea his family could probably pay to have him go here but he earned himself a scholarship by being just so damn smart. And they liked what a 'good kid' he was.
Soon after coming here though he started smoking pot where he met Sapphire who introduced him around to all the pot heads. He only hung out with them when he was high though. Well Except for Sapphire but she didn't judge him.

'We won't get caught, I promise, but we'll have to head off behind the lake a little' Lola told him, not sure how he'd feel about having to cross the lake where it was real narrow, not that it was too hard. A tree had conveniently fallen across it a few years back, and it had been used as a bridge ever since. She knew they wouldn't get caught because she went there all the time, and she was the only one to do so, quite fond of wagging classes occasionally. Sure, she'd taken a few boys there before, but never a sober one.
